An Unexpected Time Travelling
It was a chilly Hong Kong evening, and as I stepped into the dimly lit alley behind my grandparents' apartment building, I couldn't shake the feeling of anticipation coursing through my veins. Clutching the mysterious antique watch I had found in my grandmother's attic, I whispered the peculiar language etched on its back: "Tempus reverti."
Suddenly, a brilliant flash of light erupted from the ancient watch, and when the glare faded, I found myself standing on the bustling streets of 1980s Hong Kong. The air was thick with the scent of incense and sizzling street food, and neon signs illuminated the night sky in a mesmerising display of colours.
Heart pounding with excitement, I set out on my quest to find my parents when they were young. As I weaved through the crowded streets, I couldn't help but marvel at the sights and sounds of a bygone era. The sound of Cantonese pop music blaring from storefronts, the sight of old-fashioned double-decker buses rumbling down the streets – it was like stepping into a time capsule. No one was on their phone.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity of searching, I stumbled upon a quaint café tucked away in a quiet corner of the city. Through the frosted glass windows, I caught a glimpse of two familiar figures sitting at a corner table, lost in animated conversation.
Heart racing, I pushed open the door and stepped inside, the tinkling of the bell overhead drawing their attention. My parents – young, carefree, and utterly unaware of my presence – looked up, their eyes widening in astonishment.
"Who are you?" my mother asked, her voice tinged with a mix of curiosity and apprehension.
"I'm your son," I replied, struggling to find the right words to explain my sudden appearance. "From the future."
Their disbelief quickly turned to incredulity as I recounted my journey through time and space, the antique watch clutched tightly in my hand as proof of my extraordinary tale. Slowly but surely, they began to accept the truth of my words, their expressions morphing from scepticism to wonder.
As we sat together in the cosy confines of the café, I listened intently as my parents regaled me with stories of their youth – tales of love, laughter, and adventure. It was surreal to see them in this light, as vibrant and full of life as I had never known them to be.
But amidst the laughter and reminiscing, there was a bittersweet undercurrent – a reminder of the passage of time and the inevitability of change. As the night wore on and the hour grew late, I knew that my time in the past was drawing to a close.
With a heavy heart, I bid my parents farewell, knowing that this fleeting encounter would remain etched in my memory forever. As I uttered the incantation once more and felt the familiar rush of energy envelop me, I closed my eyes and braced myself for the return journey.
